Social networks are popular among librarians. We are attracted by its potential for communication and exchange, and we want to be there. In Spain, the most widely used network is Tuenti , the customer profile is between 22 and 25 years, and only in the Compluntense has 30,000 users. Why, then, most libraries have opted to Facebook embark on the adventure of the networks?
After getting the invitation of a teenage nephew, I have entered Tuenti to track profiles of university libraries. If the pages of Facebook, a good number of fans librarians libraries are eager to experience new emotions, Tuenti find the actual user, that with which we passed down the hall and whose conversation heard on the bus. The following comments are drawn from the profiles of the Library of the University of the Basque Country and Information Sciences from the Complutense
"ajajajajaja tuenti up where we in these times most of the time! Olé! "
" And from here you can reserve a site? It is by not having to go to the tails of 7.30 in the morning ... "
" library lady, do not you Descojonado when people climb the spiral staircase to the top floor? "
This user was responding to Mrs. library, when she told him: " I hope that my tables are convenient for your nap ... "Very comfortable ... I do not strike me as comfortable are my companions. ..
Some might think that the library is a place serious enough to lend themselves to these jokes teens, but would also be nice to reflect on our sudden interest in entering the social networks.
We are told that we must be where the user. Libraries have always had a vocation to serve the community. As the motto chosen by the National Library exhibition on 150 years of the Corps of Archivists and Librarians: Sic vos non vobis taken from some verses of Virgil, which means: So you, not for you. ...
Web 2.0 offers ways to communicate with users to never have dreamed. When generalized social catalogs, readers can easily switch between them their views on the books they read, and may even label them according to their interests, but also if they wish, may be part of a network of users with similar interests, which are in turn generating more intellectual knowledge or simply human (where is the line?).
As stated in Tuenti profile of one of these libraries: Not everything is learned in class , and this I would add, and not everything is learned from books.
While libraries do not have mechanisms to generate their own networks is well out into the world and take advantage of existing ones.
Our library was already in Facebook, now also just landed on Tuenti and look for friends.
